QUESTIONS....

How were citizens influenced by crime?

Citizens were influenced by crime as violence was erupting on streets. This increase in violence throughout Richmond meant that people became attached to the idea of crime and decided to join in. Children was also effected, especially those who crowed the streets. Their personal view on society and the criminal acts made by older people had changed young children's view on society and given themselves an interest in crime. The wealth of families was affected due to the increase in robberies. Criminal activity in Richmond had put innocent people in life threatening situations. As it is was common for children to roam the streets of Richmond, they were at risk of becoming criminals themselves. Drugs were the main crime committed in the 1920's, cocaine being a big hit. It attracted teens and adults into taking it, and they had no idea that it would destroy their lives and influence people living on the streets. Casinos and business had been owned from criminal kingpins therefore corrupting the streets and bars with illegal rights.

How did police deal with the issue of crime in Richmond?

Police were not as protective as they are now during the 1900's and the 1930's. Due to technology not being as developed, it was harder to catch criminals. Crime was especially high in Richmond during this time so it was made harder. There were no cameras or technical devices during the 1900’s so if a criminal was to get away there was no footage able to retrace his steps or zoom in on his appearance in order to find him.

Why was Richmond a severe victim of crime?

During the 1900's, Richmond was a suburb full of crime and very violent. The poor played a predominant role in the issue of crime throughout Richmond. Their lack of money is what drew the poor people into the crime business in search of riches. Homeless people had a tendency to look for money and their lack of money or places to live in had changed their life. Casinos were full of men with gambling addictions and often leave the casino angry after losing money and drunk. This would cause havoc and fighting in the place. Criminal activity started to influence some of the poorer people into thievery and this put Richmond in an unsafe position. As criminal activity quickly spread across Richmond it shaped the suburb into a poor place for homeless people and this put a steep change on the society and on the morale of Richmond.

How did crime shape Richmond's environment into the state it is today?

The 1900's to the 1930's was the time in which Richmond was effectively changed and adapted into the society it is today. The crime within Richmond has impacted upon their evolving structures and the suburb itself and caused destruction. During this time, Richmond was victim to drug abuse especially of cocaine. Many homeless people were involved in this and have made for an unsafe environment that impacts everyone.

Did crime influence other citizens into making the wrong decisions?

Crimes did kind of influence other people to do the wrong decisions. Crimes such as thievery were followed through by poor people and drugs were being distributed all over the streets of Richmond. Slowly as crime became to spread across Richmond more and more children became to get involved in crime. Squizzy was involved in many aspects of crime, he was the ultimate criminal and had smarts about him. He was addicted to gambling and that was one of the main reasons he did crime, it was because of his greed and lust for money that he became a killer. Squizzy started as a thieve, then slowly began to kill for money. This impacted Richmond’s society during the 1900’s to 1930’s by putting families and innocent people in life threatening situations that could potentially affect their moral of life.
