BACKGROUND INFO

Background of Crime in Richmond in the 1900’s?

Most children in the 1900’s didn’t go to high school as they finished their education at the age of 12. They were forced to work at a trade or help sustain their families business such as helping out at family farms. In addition this meant that they were regarded as an adult at the age of 12, many people believe this was the cause of some crimes in the 1900’s. Transitioning from basic education into hard forced labour so quickly made the children feel trapped and resulting in committing crime. Crime in Richmond during the 1900’s isn’t very different to crimes in modern Richmond today.
